The Run

THE RUNNING PROCESS
Many people think that the concept behind RunNat is simple: Just Run and Pray. And yes, it is that simple. But there are a lot of little things to look into in ensuring that the Run is a success. A Runner needs to know what happens before, during and after the Run to ensure that everything runs smoothly on the event day. And here’s a brief description of how the entire Run works.

RUNNING

  • Each Team consists of three (3) Runners. You may opt for a smaller or larger group. There must be a minimal of two (2) Runners and maximal of five (5) Runners only.
  • For security reasons, one of the Runners must be a male. Runners must have their Team Manager driving close by at all time.
  • The Team must carry the Prayer Card, mobile phone and Route Map during the run.
  • All Runners must endeavour to finish the 5km run. This is only exceptional in case of emergencies such as injury, etc.
  • Runners must run together at a pace that is comfortable for all as they run and pray. Each will take turn to pray aloud while the others agree with them.
  • The official language during the Prayer Run is English. However, if the entire team agrees to use another language of choice during the run, it is acceptable if all of them understand the language.
  • The Team must run the route that has been plotted on the Route Map given.
  • If one of the Runners is unable to continue, the other Runners should stop to assist. If need be, the Team Manager can assist in the situation. Once they are sure that him/her has been taken care off, the Runners should resume the Run instantly.
  • In the case of an emergency, the Team can abandon the Run. In this case, the Team manager must inform the next Team Manager. If possible, the Prayer Card should be sent over to the next Team. Otherwise the Area Group Head should deliver a new one to the next Team.
  • The next Team must wait till the preceding Team reaches them and hands over the Prayer Card before they can continue the run. In the even of an emergency (see above), they may proceed without waiting and use a new Prayer Card. In any case, each Team must have the Prayer Card with them during the Run.
  • This is a Prayer Run, thus must be treated by all Team Members with the respect they should give to any prayer events.

DURING THE RUN

  • There will be three Runners in a team. One of them will be carrying a Prayer Card that serves as a reference with related prayer pointers, another carries the Route Map that marks the paths ahead while the last one holds on to a Mobile Phone.
  • It is important to ensure that your Team Manager is able to contact the mobile during the Run in case of emergencies.
  • As the Runners run, each of them will take turns to pray. As one prays, the teammates should agree with him/her. Runners should pray according to the prayer items written on the Prayer Card, the inhabitants of the buildings around them and any particular building landmark that represent a specific group of people. For example, the Parliament.
  • Once the Team has started running, the Team Manager will have to notify the next Team Manager to inform them of their estimated time of arrival. This will usually be about 30minutes after they start. This would give ample time to the next Team to prepare.
  • Upon arrival at the next Meeting Point, the Team will hand over the Prayer Card to the next Team who will then continue with another 5km stretch of the Run. The steps repeat until the last Team reaches the Finishing Line near the Hall.
  • A simple ceremony will be held to present each Runner with a Certificate of Participation. Refreshments will also be served. The RunNat event is expected to end by noon.

AFTER THE RUN

  • After running, the Teams are allowed to return home to freshen up if time permits.
  • All Teams should meet and gather in the Hall at 10:00am to welcome the last Team.
  • Everyone will then proceed into the Hall at 10:30am where a Corporate Prayer session will take place.
