FAQs

1. CAN WE HAVE MORE THAN 3 RUNNERS?
A team is allowed a maximum of 5 Runners. The rationale for this is that a big group will make it more difficult to run and pray together. Runners have to be within earshot of each other so that all can hear the prayers and agree. That’s the whole idea of this event.

2. CAN WE RUN LESS THAN 5KMs?
No. Each team must cover 5kms unless there is an emergency, which stops the run for continuing. All our prescribed routes will cover 5km. Having different distances will make planning this event very difficult. Besides the run is not meant to be too easy as there is value in running through the tiredness in the body as was attested by those who took part in 2007.

3. WHAT IF I CAN’T RUN 5KM AND WANT TO TAKE PART IN THIS EVENT?
Only those who agree to run 5km can register with RunNat. However those who want to run less than 5km can act as support runners to the registered runners. In many marathon events there are friends of marathoners who run with them for a few kilometers as a way of showing support and encouragement. However, please be aware that we cannot have more than 5 people running together as we do not want to disrupt the purpose of the event (see “CAN WE HAVE MORE THAN 3 RUNNERS” above). Others can be involved as Team Managers or be at the Hall to cheer the last team of Runners as they cross the finish line. Still others can pray for the Runners during the Run.

4. CAN I RUN WITH MY OWN FRIENDS?
We encourage Teams to consist of members of different churches as this promotes unity amongst churches. Also Team Groupings are based on areas where the Runners live or work. However, Runners can opt to run only with their friends by indicating so in the Registration Form. Some Churches prefer to organize the teams amongst their own church members. We allow this although again we would encourage inter church team groupings.

5. CAN I PRAY IN A LANGUAGE BESIDES ENGLISH?
Yes. Although the official language is English, a Team can decide to pray in another language, eg. Mandarin or Malay when they run together. However, everyone in the Team must be able to speak and understand the chosen language. Besides English, we will have the Prayer Cards in Mandarin and Tamil.

6. CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH MY TRAINING?
Each State Committee will organize Training Sessions in their respective towns. These sessions are opened to all those who are registered to take part or who are considering taking part. Info on when these training sessions will be held will be posted on the RunNat website and/Facebook Group. We will also post running and training tips on the RunNat website.

7. CAN I PRAY FOR AREAS NOT COVERED IN THE PRAYER CARD?
Yes you can. However the prayers should reflect the cares and concerns of Christians throughout the country and therefore be about others more so than about ourselves.

8. CAN A NON-CHRISTIAN TAKE PART?
The objective of the event is to take our prayers to the streets in the towns where we live. We pray in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Only those who are prepared to do so can take part.

9. WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT COMPLETE THE RUN?
Some may not be able to complete the Run because of injury. In such an event, the other Runners should continue after making sure that the injured Runner is okay and is attended to by the Team Manager. If they are unable to leave the injured Runner than the Team Manager must inform the next Team Manager whose team is waiting to takeover so that they can continue the Run. Apart from injury, the Run should continue.

10. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS ON RUNNAT DAY?
The event can continue as long as the Runners are prepared to run in the rain. In that case they would be advised to wear rainproof gear. The SC of each state capital will be the final decider on whether the prayer run should continue.

11. WILL THERE BE A MEDICAL TEAM AVAILABLE?
Each State Committee is required to identify doctors and/or paramedics in their city to be on standby from 5am to 10am on RunNat Day to deal with any medical emergency. The identified doctor can be at home during this time.

12. CAN A MEMBER OF THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE OR STATE COMMITTEE PARTICIPATE AS A RUNNER?
Yes, a member of the CC or SC may participate as a Runner. However, one cannot participate as a Runner if you are a Team Manager or Area Group Head.

13. DO WE NEED AUTHORITY APPROVAL TO ORGANISE THIS EVENT?
The law says that a gathering of more than 3 persons in a public place requires a police permit. Logically this will mean that even having a dinner out in a restaurant with your family of four or more will require that! However as we know in practice this is not the case. It is meant to cover cases where there is suspicion of an activity that may give rise to social or political issues deemed by the authorities as a threat to national security. In our case, we are not engaging in anything political. This is just a prayer run. Moreover there are only 3 persons who are running in a particular area at any one time. Runners run in groups all the time. There is no disruption to traffic as we do not need roads to be blocked or closed. If the gathering of runners at the end of the run for a time of corporate prayer takes place in a private building eg. a church there is no need for a permit either. If it is held in a public school hall or a stadium then the relevant permissions will need to be obtained.
