Interview: Mark Geppert

Last year, during the Briefing Day of RunNat09 in Sarawak, one of the State Committee was fortunate to engage Mark Geppert as the speaker. Mark Geppert is the President and founder of the South East Asia Prayer Centre, which is committed to creating new and networking existing prayer cells in South East Asia, channeling resources into humanitarian projects, and raising up prayer teams which will penetrate unreached people groups in the nations.

During the meeting Mr. Geppert shared many points regarding prayer and also showed the participants practical ways as to pray while running without losing the concentration. After that, State Committee member Sarah had the opportunity to interview him. And here is how it went…

Sarah (SL): Hi, Mr. Mark, that was a great sharing you had there! I would like to interview you for the purpose of the State Committee’s record. So, based on what you’ve seen so far being here in Sarawak, how is Sarawak doing spiritually?

Interview: Emmanuel Mohan

P1020941So Runners if a Brazilian wants to pray for our nation how much more we who live here should do the same! Another person who got saved through sports is Emmanuel Mohan (he got saved whilst learning football at BFC).

RC: How did you hear about BFC?

EM: I saw an article about it in the Star newspaper. I love football so I enrolled myself in their course. I couldn’t afford the RM750 entry fee so my grandmother sponsored me. After 6 months later, one of the coaches appointed me as an assistant coach because he saw my capability as a player. That was in 2005. I have been serving there ever since.

Interview: Keney Martin

Dear Runners and Friends

Another thing that Ps Philip Mantofa spoke about at the 40 Days Fast and Pray celebration at FGA on Sunday night was the need for us to see ourselves as “giants in the Lord”. He shared from Numbers 13:31-14:3. The Israelites were afraid of what they saw before them across the Jordan River. Only a handful could believe that God could deliver victory to them. As we desire to see our nation transformed, let us awaken the “sleeping giant” that dwells within each one of us who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour over all.

Over the next few weeks as we gear up for the run, we will also get to know some of the personalities who will be taking part. As we embark on something that requires oneness of spirit it would be good to get to know some of the people who will be running with us. We wish that we could introduce everybody but that just isn’t possible. Let’s take the time to get to know one another on RunNat Day.

keney-3Speaking of giants, there are some amongst us who are running whom we might consider to be “giants” in the field of sports. One such person is Keney Martin. If you happened to be following the Athletics scene in 1989, you may have witnessed the Malaysian team take gold in the 4×400m relay at the SEA Games held in KL. One of the runners from this Gold medalist’s quartet was the young rookie Keney Martin. This talented young runner also holds the distinction of breaking the hitherto oldest national record then – the 400m hurdles. The previous record of 52.7secs was set in 1965 and 24 years later Keney ran it in 52.5secs. He went on to be ranked amongst the top 20 in Asia. Such was his feat that in 2007 he was invited to be among the 50 athletes to participate in the 50th Merdeka Celebrations (others included famous sportspeople like Razif Sidek and Malek Noor) Today Keney is a doting father to 2 beautiful kids and a loving husband. He worships at FGA.

Interview: Emma Sng

We have been saying it over and over again that RunNat is not targeted solely to the youngsters, teenagers and young adults. It’s open to everyone in the Christian community, old and young, rich and poor, tall and short, thin and fat… you get the idea. Just to inspire the parents and young children out there, here’s an interview we conducted with an eight year old girl back during the RunNat07 days. Her name is Emma Sng, one of the youngest runner back then.

RunNat: Hi Emma. Do you get to run a lot in your school?

ES: No. I do lots of jumping and other exercises in school.
