Right now depends on wife's kindergarden helper wages RM600 and welfare payment RM350 plus son's daily wages of RM15 a day. | 2. | Assessment and Intervention support for children with disabilities in Enggang Community To provide home-based intervention to children with disabilities in Enggang low-cost flats We have identified 4 families in this community that have children with disabilities. These children had little or no intervention due to their family's financial constraints. We aim to provide assessment and intervention support to these children and their families. We will also work with volunteers who are professionally trained to provide home-based intervention such as physiotherapy, Individual Education Plan, etc. This is part of the community development work by Community At Heart together with Malaysian Care. | 6. | Economic Empowerment for Women & Families Living with HIV/AIDS Women living with HIVAIDS find it difficult to manage their lives and that of their families due to the vagrancies of the disease. Their health is inconsistent even with medication, and this makes them less employable. Even when employed, many have to take medical leave consistently, and to go for their hospital appointments. Even for the self-employed living on a daily wage, taking time off from work due to illness and hospital appointments etc. is a difficult situation to manage. We want to provide some financial assistance to bring them out of poverty. Financial Literacy Programme will be conducted to assist each person in learning to earn more and to manage their finances better. Note: We hope to assist at least 6 women in these situations. | 7. | Education for Refugee Children Refugee children cannot access formal education due to lack of proper documentation. Community education centers are set up to provide informal education opportunities for school-aged children. These centers are depending largely on community support and often operate without external funding. The funding of RM100 per child per month will cover teachers' allowance, rental for education center premise, teaching materials, workbook, stationery & lunch/tea break. We hope to sponsor 500 refugee children (from Myanmar) at various education centers in Pudu, Cheras, Puchong, Kajang and Kepong. RM3000 to sponsor 5 children for 6 months. | 8. | FAMILY OF 3 CHILDREN WITH A DRUG ADDICT FOR A FATHER The husband is a drug addict since a teenager, been in jail and rehab centres a number of times and is asthmatic taking 3 types of medications. He cannot find a job as people find it hard to trust a drug addict. His drug addiction keeps relapsing.The family depends on wife (a diabetic needing insulin jabs) who works as a cleaner earning RM550, and welfare payment of RM200. After deducting expenses rental of RM0, food, etc they have a balance of RM85 left. As a result the family frequently has one meal a day only and at times the children have to miss dinner and has to starve. They depend on monthly food supplies from DUMC. The wife wants to generate income from the home, cooking and selling muruku, buying products from wholesale market and going from floor to floor in the flats on trolley selling products on weekends. 1. | 10. | HELP INDUMATHI & CHILDREN Her husband is now incarcerated in Machang prison in Kelantan for 2 years for a drug possession case. There is a pending case of attempted murder against him over the slashing of Indumathi, and she has filed divorce proceedings against him. Indumathi became a Christian about 3 years ago. She is now living temporarily with Thenmoly in Kajang. Indumathi has a mother who is suffering from cancer, and another sister who is also a single mother and maybe suffering from deep depression, both staying in Kota Damansara. She wishes that her mother and sister to stay with her.Immediate Action Required :- 1. Provide her with food basket of circa RM400/month for 6 months. 2. | 11. | Help Little Z Hear & Learn Little Z was born with some medical conditions which included a hole in the heart and larynx disorder. He has undergone a few operations and only started walking at 3. Later he was also confirmed to have hearing-impairment (both ears). All these affected Z's development (physical and intellectual) and learning. The cost of hearing aid of RM3,500 each is beyond the means of his father who works as a deliveryman. His mother is a Thai-citizen therefore, unable to work here. The family has no access to any government's assistance (e.g. OKU benefits) as Z is not a Malaysian (born to a Thai mother who was not yet married to his Malaysian father at that time). | 15. | Mercy care for bedridden Siva (part of SOS Assembly's Mercy Ministry for the poor & needy in Sri Sentosa community) Program Goals & Objectives To improve the living condition of Siva who is bedridden & minister hope to his family Siva became paralyzed from waist down 16 years ago when he was so severely injured on the spine during a gang fight. His only restricted area of movement is his bed. Sleeping facedown is the only possible posture. He only gets to turn around for a few moments to avoid bedsore every evening with the help of someone. His kidneys have suffered serious damage and all bowel movements are through tubes. He was initially treated at government hospitals but all hope of recovery is long gone and treatment of any sort has been abandoned. For the past 16 years, Siva was staying with his two elderly parents. To make the situation worse, his 82-year-old father passed away early September 2011. Though he has 3 other siblings, two of them are married and one brother is still single but presently unemployed. Members of SOS have been visiting this family since June 2011 and will continue to do so to provide physical and spiritual care. The team will also explore other ways of helping e.g. home-based physiotherapy for Siva and empowering his brother towards employment or income-generation. | 16. | Mercy Care for ex-prisoner Voorvasi (part of SOS Assembly's Mercy Ministry for the poor & need in Sri Sentosa community) Program Goals & Objectives To assist Voorvasi to begin a life with hope and courage, acceptance and help through the community ministry, and most importantly, continues to have her mentored and disciple, so as to grow to be functional, drug free, and be a blessing to others as time comes. Voorvasi has been on drugs almost all of her adult life. Prison was a familiar place. Through the grace and mercy of God, she was admitted to Rumah Kepercayaan, Malaysian Care in the year of 2009, after having undergone the rehabilitation program, she went on to be a helper for several months. Since leaving RK, she has been staying in the proximity of our church. She attends church without fail and is very much considered one of us in the family of SOS Assembly. Due to her age, her limited educational background, it has been proven difficult to find a permanent job. She has been working temporary job, odd job and all these come and go kind of work. Due to the nature of the jobs such as packing etc, she is paid very little, but yet she is willing to work. Recently, she lost her job again because the company has shifted to another location. Voorvasi has a back problem and she is being treated at government clinic now as an out- patient. We are still looking for a job for her. Perhaps a small business like selling newspaper with her own stall and other possibilities. She exhibits humility and does not mind to do any kind of work as long as it is not too much physical for her age and back condition. | 17. | Mercy care for single mother Lilawati (part of SOS Assembly's Mercy Ministry for the poor & needy in Sri Sentosa community) Program Goals & Objectives To assist the subject to begin a life with hope and courage, acceptance and help through the community ministry, and most importantly, sharing the saving grace of Christ with her and her child. Lilawati has not been legally married but has a 6 years old daughter. The father of the child was already married when they got to know each other but kept the truth from her. He has 4 children from his previous marriage and lives a very wayward lifestyle, which includes womanizing all the time, most of the time jobless, ex-prisoner yet not showing any willingness to change at time of writing this evaluation. Another blow in Lilawati's life was when she discovered she has contracted TB. She is presently on medication and was found to be stable and on her way to recovery during her last check-up at Hospital Selayang. She is penniless and got nowhere to go. Though she still have parents and a sister but none is able to render any meaningful help. She is looking for a job around our area and she is presently staying with her aunty who is also attending our church. We will make sure she gets a job and will assist in arranging her child to be schooled comes 2012. Ann, a widow with three daughters since her husband passed away several years ago, works in a nursing home in Petaling Jaya. She earns approximately RM900 monthly though she has worked there for many years. Oldest daughter works as a receptionist in a legal firm but due to the long distance taking bus and LRT from home to office daily, after deducting transport cost, her net income is very minimal. Apart from the at-times-not-so-good health of the mother, the youngest daughter Rebecca suffers from epilepsy for many years and is on medication daily. The cost of the medication is approximately RM100+ monthly. The second daughter Rachel is on PTPTN (Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional) loan and is studying at a college in Shah Alam. The cost of transport is also a burden on the family. The rental of a small apartment of the family is RM450 with minimal and very basic necessity. We want to help the family through their financial difficulties till Rachel finishes her course and begin to work to help out. They all attend our church and they have been most faithful and have been most willing to learn and grow in the Lord. We will also help them to identify their strength and open doors for better employment opportunities. We have ministered to her for a few months and she has been most willing to be taught and mentored. She is now a believer and follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. She attends church with her children attending Sunday school regularly. We want to help restructure her life with hope and expectation in her path of the way of God. Planning is on the way to help her seek better prospect job with a more stable income. The financial constraint she faces is fast sinking her into depression and a state of hopelessness and desperation. She needs help in many ways to kick start her life as a functional and productive person and a responsible mother as well. | 31. | Wheelchair for Cerebral Palsy Boy Kugan is a 13 year-old cheerful boy with Cerebral Palsy. Since birth, he does most of his activities lying down on the floor. His aunty takes care of him during the day while his parents work. Due to his immobility, he is unable to go to hospital for therapies. It is a challenge for his aging aunty to bathe him and carry him around. Kugan's world is always upside-down as he spends most of the time lying on the floor. A wheelchair at the cost of RM900 will help to align his vision and he can also wheel out of the house and to enjoy the beauty of God's creation.
